Randy Curless–Program Coordinator
Randy spent most of his growing up years in Florissant, MO, which is a suburb or St. Louis. He asked Jesus Christ to take control of his life when he was 5 years old. He has played organized sports ever since he was seven years old. When he went to McCluer North High School, Randy and his father started the Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle there which is still going today. He went to Southwest Missouri State University and got a degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies. While there, Randy served as a Recreation Assistant at FBC Springfield, MO when Bobby Shows was the Recreation Minister. He then went on to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary got a Masters of Divinity degree.
Since then, he has served on church staffs in Louisiana, Florida, Illinois, and Missouri. Randy joined the SC Staff in October, 2004 as the Illinois Camp Coordinator. In August, 2006 he became the Program Coordinator. In August, 2008, Randy became the Executive Director. In February 2010, he went back to being the Program Coordinator. This involves being the organization’s main fundraising coordinator, host of our weekly Christian sports-talk radio show, Sports Crusaders Live, that is streamed on our website, and helping recruit our summer staff and host churches. Randy also serves as the Chaplain for the River City Rascals minor league professional baseball team. He started volunteering in this capacity in 1999 when the team was formed. He jokingly says that his favorite verse in the Bible is “Where there is no ball, I perish.”
Randy has been married to Melinda Kerr for 22 years. They have a daughter, Jocelyn, who is 21 years old.
